Caring For Your Ceramic Items
Caring For Your Ceramic Items
At Atelier Jessie, we understand that the purchase of a handmade ceramic piece is not just about acquiring a functional item, but also about owning a piece of art that has been crafted with love and care. As a small business that sells handmade ceramic goods in London, we want to ensure that our customers have the knowledge and tools to care for their pieces properly and make them last a lifetime.
Are Atelier Jessie mugs dishwasher safe?
When it comes to cleaning your Atelier Jessie mugs, the good news is that they are dishwasher safe. However, to ensure that your mugs stay in top condition for as long as possible, we recommend hand washing them. While dishwashers are great for everyday use, the high heat and harsh detergents can cause discoloration and wear on the glaze over time.
Can I put my Atelier Jessie mugs in the microwave?
Most Atelier Jessie pieces are microwave friendly. To make sure, it's important to check the care instructions that come with your pieces. Some of our glazes are not suitable for microwave use, as the high heat can cause cracking or discolouration. If your mugs are microwave safe, we recommend using a low heat setting and keeping an eye on them to avoid overheating. Atelier Jessie mugs with any sort of lustre is not microwave safe. Handwash ‘em only!
I use my mugs everyday, I’ve noticed some marks!
First of all, absolutely love that the mugs are being used daily. It's totally normal for handmade ceramics to show some signs of wear over time, especially with regular use. Scratch marks can occur from stacking dishes, metal being scraped across a surface, or using abrasive cleaning tools. To keep your Atelier Jessie mugs looking their best, we recommend hand washing them with a mild detergent and a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that can scratch the glaze. If your pieces have seen better days, try making this super simple paste and scrubbing it out.
1- Make your own scouring paste:
Here’s a simple recipe:
- lemon juice
- baking soda
2- Find a non-abrasive scrub: we quite like this coir “tawashi” brush from Labour & Wait. Its not only hardwearing but also very environmentally friendly, when it finally wears out it can be put in the compost.
3- Apply the paste and spread it on the marked up areas. Scrub for a minute or so.
4- Wash your mugs with soapy water and dry. Ta-da!
In conclusion, taking care of your handmade ceramics is a breeze when you understand the material and how to properly clean and store them. By following these simple steps, you can ensure that your Atelier Jessie pieces will bring you joy for many years to come.
